The Biggest Mistake that Dental Implant Patients Make
People looking for Dental Implants in Hamilton, ON may assume that all dentists are alike, but they couldn’t be more wrong! The assembly line approach of our medical care system is partly to blame for these views. During an emergency, you don’t have the choice to figure out which emergency room you go to or who to see. You just go to the closest ER and hope for the best care from the doctor who happens to be on shift.
If you’ve been unlucky like me, who have had to make a trip to the emergency room several times, you’ve probably had some really great experiences as well as some not-so-great ones.
A few years ago, I rushed my 4-year-old son to the ER because he was having breathing difficulty. The only thing I can say is that we could not have asked for a better experience. The nurses attended to the needs of my son at a moment’s notice. Within minutes, the doctor was there to hook him up to monitors and give medications.
At that point, I learned that the ER doctor on duty was a mother. She wasn’t just a doctor, but also a parent, just like my wife and I. She understood what it was like to have to take your child to the ER and how frightening that can be to go through. Being a parent just like us, she did an excellent job of making us feel calm, confident, and assured that we were in good hands.
But now, let me share with you a not-so-pleasant trip to the ER.
Not so long ago, I was playing softball and ended up hurting my leg. I drove myself to the hospital after the game. I must have been sitting there in the ER for about three hours. I then approached the triage nurses again to follow up, which was a good thing because they forgot I was there. Eventually, I was assigned to a doctor who spent less than a minute pushing and pulling my leg here and there. The doctor told me I was fine and I could go home. Everything’s going to be okay, he said.
I got a phone call from the hospital the following day. Apparently, the radiologist looked over my x-ray and found out that the ER doctor had missed something: My leg was broken. So, I had to cancel all my plans on that day and return to the hospital immediately for leg surgery.
Now, I’m not sure if the ER doctor who examined my leg was fatigued, stressed, or occupied with a lot of things going on at that moment. But he didn’t take much time with me and showed genuine care about my case. What I do know is that he misread something on the x-rays, which resulted in a traumatic and frightening experience for me that I will never forget.
Finding a good implant dentist in the Hamilton, ON area is not much different from the experiences we have all had in the ER. You’ve probably had an awesome dentist before if you’ve been around the block. Sadly, you may have also met dentists who just didn’t seem to be quite a good fit for your priorities and preferences.
My advice for you: don’t give up your right to choose your dentist when it comes to dental implants. You have a right to take advantage of that privilege, and you should.
Here’s why.
A dental implant is a surgical procedure, just like the leg surgery I had to have done. Not every implant dentist in Hamilton has the same level of expertise in dental implants. Not all use the same materials or techniques in their lab. And the truth is, they won’t all spend the same amount of time with you before, during, and after your dental implant treatment..
And most importantly: You won’t have the same level of trust and confidence in each of them.
You might be thinking about fixing your bite or smile. Your smile may not look exactly or feel exactly the way you want it to, and you’re not feeling confident about it. Maybe you’re on the fence about making a change to your smile. I understand. It’s possible that you simply haven’t found the dentist who is the best fit for you personally.
